Deadly landmines threaten the lives and well-being of children in rural Colombia
NEW YORK, USA, 4 April 2007 – Nearly six years ago, when Irma Janeth was 10, she accidentally set her left foot on a landmine while walking through the woods in her hometown of Quebradona, rural Colombia. The explosion tore off one of her legs instantly, and left her unable to bear children.
 
UNICEF condemns use of a minor in Taliban execution
NEW YORK/GENEVA, 23 April 2007 -- UNICEF today condemned the use of a minor in a Taliban execution as a criminal act. A video circulating in Pakistan shows a young boy beheading an adult. The act was a terrible example of how children can be used by adults to commit heinous crimes in times of conflict.



LAW ON CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
On August 17 the Bill of Statutory Law was presented to Congress “in which the law on Children and Adolescents is promulgated”, a proposal that prioritizes eight basic themes: Nutrition, Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Special Protection, Civil Registration, Maternal Mortality, Infant Mortality, and Water and Sanitation. Based on what you know about the country’s situation, what would you propose doing to consolidate these priorities?
UNICEF calls for entries for Children’s Broadcasting Award

NEW YORK, 7 March 2007 - UNICEF and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today called for entries from broadcasters for the 2007 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting Award. The ICDB Award will go to the broadcaster whose programming best reflects the 2006 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting them, Unite for Children. Unite Against AIDS, and who demonstrates an overall dedication to youth participation in media.
