Colombian government and UNICEF sign new Programme of Cooperation for next five years
Bogotá, December 21, 2007, UNICEF. In a simple ceremony held today at the San Carlos Palace in Bogotá, seat of the Colombian Chancellery, the national government and UNICEF signed the “Country Programme Plan of Action” (CPAP), to be implemented over the five year period between 2008 and 2012.
 
Children’s voices important in climate change discussions
NEW YORK/NUSA DUA (BALI), 12 December 2007 – Two days after the presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize to environmental experts, UNICEF has released a publication that outlines the concerns of children and youth about climate change.



LAW ON CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
On August 17 the Bill of Statutory Law was presented to Congress “in which the law on Children and Adolescents is promulgated”, a proposal that prioritizes eight basic themes: Nutrition, Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Special Protection, Civil Registration, Maternal Mortality, Infant Mortality, and Water and Sanitation. Based on what you know about the country’s situation, what would you propose doing to consolidate these priorities?

Colombia wins international children’s television prize with RCN, Citurna and UNICEF’s “One Minute for my Rights”

At the recent Third Ibero American Children’s Television Festival, “Prix Jeunesse”, in Santiago de Chile, Colombia won the prize for the “best new ideas” category with its project “One Minute for my Rights”, developed by UNICEF in association with RCN Television.

”One Minute for my Rights “

Bogotá, December 7, 2007. Beginning today, the airing of the “filminutes” prepared by children and adolescents in four areas of the country affected by violence and poverty will begin. The launching of the One minute for my rights initiative was held this morning, allowing children to share with the Colombian public their opinions, customs, environments and needs. This video series will be on the air for a period of six months, in a children’s programme broadcast on weekends.

El Espectador Prize goes to the Colombia-Pastas La Muñeca 2007 Team

The weekly newspaper El Espectador, together with its readers, awarded the Team of the Year prize to the Colombia– Pastas La Muñeca Rollerskate Racing Team for its sixth world title, which it won in August in the city of Cali. In fact, there were nominees from skating in five different categories of the 47th edition of the prestigious and traditional “El Espectador Sportsman of the Year” event, held in Bogotá’s Hotel Sheraton.

UNICEF, One Laptop per Child, Google Launch Initiative to Preserve and Share Stories around the World

NEW YORK, 7 December 2007 – UNICEF, One Laptop per Child (OLPC) and Google today announced the launch of “Our Stories” (www.ourstories.org), a joint initiative to preserve and share the histories and identities of cultures around the world by making personal stories available online in many languages.

UNICEF calls on young people
to stop HIV infection in Colombia


Bogotá, December 3, 2007. In commemoration of World Aids Day, UNICEF is calling on Colombian adolescents and youths to learn more about the epidemic, the ways it is transmitted, how to protect against it, and the existence of laboratory tests that make it possible to detect infection early and begin timely treatments that will help to prolong life and increase its quality.

UNICEF launches fundraising campaign for children affected by Córdoba rainy season

Bogotá, December 3/2007. The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has launched a campaign to raise funds to sensitize the population to the damage the rainy season is causing, particularly to children, and is issuing a call to Colombians for solidarity with this cause, asking them to contribute to it.
