WASH Journalism Competition
The Water and Sanitation Supply Collaboration Council (WSSCC) and the Stockholm International Institute Water Institute (SIWI) are co-sponsoring the second edition of the WASH Journalism Competition, which will cover the period between July 2007 and April 2008. The competition is open to journalists from developing countries that publish or broadcast reports on original research on themes related to water supply, sanitation or hygiene in their countries.
Canadian Chancellor visits project on forced recruitment supported by UNICEF in Ciudad Bolívar
Bogotá, February 2008 – Canadian Minister of Foreign Relations Máxime Bernier, Ambassador of Canada to Colombia Matthew Levin and UNICEF Representative for Colombia Paul Martin visited the project called “Opportunities for Peace”, which currently is being implemented in the Republic of Canada School in Ciudad Bolívar barrio of the Colombian capital.
 
‘Albania Reads’ – IKEA donation brings new books to schoolchildren in need
NEW YORK, USA, 25 February 2008 – UNICEF and IKEA are re-igniting enthusiasm for reading amongst a generation of children in Albania who have been deprived of books.



LAW ON CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
On August 17 the Bill of Statutory Law was presented to Congress “in which the law on Children and Adolescents is promulgated”, a proposal that prioritizes eight basic themes: Nutrition, Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Special Protection, Civil Registration, Maternal Mortality, Infant Mortality, and Water and Sanitation. Based on what you know about the country’s situation, what would you propose doing to consolidate these priorities?

In the Fight against HIV/Aids

The Staying Alive Foundation is launching its 2008 prizes to recognize innovative projects in schools, juvenile centers and clubs, using radio, television, the press, Internet and personal relations to reach youths at risk and protect them from HIV.

Launching of Caracol Junior:
a project on child and youth participation in radio communication


Bogotá, February 22, 2008- As a result of a joint effort among Fundación Plan, Caracol Radio and the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Caracol Junior was launched last February 21 – a project that has permitted 640 children and youths from the cities of Bogotá, Cartagena, Cali, Medellín and Tumaco to produce radio items – exercising their right to participation and expression.

UNICEF Appeals for $856 Million
to Aid Children and Women in Emergencies

GENEVA – 12 February 2008. UNICEF launched its Humanitarian Action Report (HAR) 2008 today, calling on donors to provide $856 million to assist children and women who are victims of emergencies in 39 different countries around the world.
