March 21: International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Panama City, March 21, 2007 (UNICEF). – By commemorating today, March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, is issuing a call to the governments and society of Latin America and the Caribbean in general, to fight the everyday racist practices that especially affect indigenous and Afro-descendant children and adolescents.
More Antioquia children to go to school

LAW ON CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
On August 17 the Bill of Statutory Law was presented to Congress “in which the law on Children and Adolescents is promulgated”, a proposal that prioritizes eight basic themes: Nutrition, Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Special Protection, Civil Registration, Maternal Mortality, Infant Mortality, and Water and Sanitation. UNICEF Executive Board visits Latin America

PANAMA, 26 March 2007 - A high-level delegation of UNICEF’s Executive Board will officially visit two Latin American countries, Panama and Peru, through 31 March. It will be an opportunity for them to personally examine the achievements of United Nations reform at the regional level and to take an in-depth look at UNICEF’s role, as well as that of its allies, in middle income countries.

German First Lady meets with representatives of UNICEF

Bogotá D.C., 23 March 2007. On the occasion of the recent visit tour country by Regional Director Nils Kastberg, he and UNICEF Colombia Director Paul Martin met with Mrs.Eve Luise Köhler, Director of the German Committee for UNICEF and First Lady of Germany. She and her husband, President Horst Köhler, were in Colombia on an official visit.

UNICEF calls for entries for Children’s Broadcasting Award

NEW YORK, 7 March 2007 - UNICEF and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today called for entries from broadcasters for the 2007 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting Award. The ICDB Award will go to the broadcaster whose programming best reflects the 2006 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting them, Unite for Children. Unite Against AIDS, and who demonstrates an overall dedication to youth participation in media.
