UNICEF calls for aid to Iraqi children
GENEVA/NEW YORK/AMMAN, 23 May 2007 – Conditions for Iraqi children affected by violence and displacement have reached a critical point, UNICEF said today. The children’s organization requires $42 million to provide relief over the next six months for children inside Iraq, as well as those who fled with their families to neighbouring Jordan and Syria.
UNICEF and the Colombian Skating Federation united for the rights of children
Bogotá D.C., 22 May 2007. UNICEF and the Colombian Skating Federation have formed an alliance to work together in promoting the right to an education for Colombian children and adolescents in conditions of vulnerability, by strengthening the School Going to the Child programme.
 
UNICEF condemns use of a minor in Taliban execution
NEW YORK/GENEVA, 23 April 2007 -- UNICEF today condemned the use of a minor in a Taliban execution as a criminal act. A video circulating in Pakistan shows a young boy beheading an adult. The act was a terrible example of how children can be used by adults to commit heinous crimes in times of conflict.



LAW ON CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
On August 17 the Bill of Statutory Law was presented to Congress “in which the law on Children and Adolescents is promulgated”, a proposal that prioritizes eight basic themes: Nutrition, Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Special Protection, Civil Registration, Maternal Mortality, Infant Mortality, and Water and Sanitation. Colombia’s Governors working to guarantee children’s right to a healthy environment

Bogotá, 31 May 2007. One of the objectives proposed for the IV Meeting of Governors for Children and Adolescents is to analyze and discuss the drinking water and basic sanitation sector’s impact on children’s and adolescents’ exercise of their rights to health and nutrition. This will be the theme guiding the work of 16 of the 32 governors participating in the meeting in the city of Valledupar on June 14 and 15.
